    MarketPlace FAQs

How do ratings work? How do I choose who I want to meet?

Approximately 3-4 weeks before MarketPlace, Shippers and Carriers will go into their profiles and rate each other. Carriers will also rate Vendors. Shippers and Carriers will give a rating on a 1-5 scale (5 being highest and 1 being lowest). The Higher you rate each other, the more likely you will meet. The lower you rate each other, the less likely you will meet. Carriers, if there is a Vendor you DO NOT want to meet with, you will put a 0. The best way to provide your rankings is by utilizing the matching report in your profile to see who you match closely with. (Keep in mind the matching report is meant as a suggestion, and you will want to do some research on your own)

How long does each interview last?

The interview lasts thirteen minutes, and a bell will chime when it is time to move to your next appointment slot. Keep in mind that if you miss a meeting, you need to check with that company to see if they have another opening so as not to interfere with schedules.

What is a profile? How do I Update?

When you become a member, you are provided with login credentials to a company profile. Here, you will want to update information about your company, such as what services it provides and how long it’s been in business. You will also want to provide information to feed the matching report if you are a Shipper or Carrier. This information is what companies will use to rate you when they meet with you in the Marketplace, so make sure you fill it out completely to put your best foot forward.

You can update your profile anytime by logging back in and selecting edit profile.

How do I log in to my member profile?

To log in, select the member login button at the top of the browser. Fill in your login credentials and select ‘Login.’ If you are unable to remember your login credentials, reach out to eca@expresscarriers.org for assistance. If you merely forgot your password, click on ‘Lost your password’ to reset it. (This email can take 10-15 minutes to appear in your inbox.) If you do not receive the email, contact eca@expresscarriers.org for assistance.

Who has access to my member profile?

Anyone you add to the profile as a member will have login credentials; however, only one member can be tagged as an admin member.

Upon recommendations from ECA President Stuart Hyden, Immediate Past-President, Brad Westrom, and board member and Carrie’s business partner Pam Witt, the board selected the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Inc. to manage the fund, committing the first $10,000 toward the endeavor. Shipper FAQs

As a shipper, what is the cost of attending MarketPlace?

A Shipper’s cost to attend MarketPlace is FREE (not including the fully refundable $250.00 deposit)! The Carrier members of ECA support Shipper’s attendance at the show. The shipper company also has the opportunity to be reimbursed for one night’s lodging. So, the cost to the Shipper is minimal compared to the return on investment in meeting quality Carriers from every region of the United States.

How does my company receive shipper incentive payments?

The shipper deposit includes one attendee. The company will reimburse the $250 deposit plus incentives via check. One company representative must attend the shipper debriefing on the last day of MarketPlace. All checks not collected at the end of the shipper debriefing will be void.

    What is the matching report?

You will find a matching report in your company profile. This pulls all Carrier information, compares it to your company profile, and spits out a percentage in which you matched up compared to what they answered. Depending on what you’re looking for, you can use this as a guide when rating Carriers you may want to meet with.

How is the matching report different from the rating survey?

Customer ratings are used based on the information from the members' profiles and matching reports. The matching report is merely a guide to show how you stack up against the needs of Carriers.

    How do rating carriers work?

Approximately 3-4 weeks before MarketPlace, Shippers and Carriers will go into their profiles and rate each other. Shippers and Carriers will give a rating on a 1-5 scale (5 being highest and 1 being lowest). The Higher you rate each other, the more likely you will meet. The lower you rate each other, the less likely you will meet. The best way to provide your rankings is by utilizing the matching report in your profile to see who you match closely with. (Keep in mind the matching report is meant as a suggestion, and you will want to do some research on your own) Don’t just put all 5 or 1’s, or your schedule will not look correct.

What should I be looking for in Carrier Profiles?

Things that matter to your business: Do they work with the same airports, and do they have the capacity or technology needed? I would rate the carriers based on your needs. If you’re unsure about one, come back to rating them later.

What should my profile look like to represent my company best?

The more your profile is filled out with current and accurate information, the better your chances of meeting with more companies.

What should I bring to MarketPlace to have a successful meeting?

    • Hard copy of sales materials.
    • Plan your presentation to carriers ahead of time.
    • Prepare a questionnaire to help guide your conversation.
    • Use the first few minutes as a shipper organization overview.
    • If you have time before meetings to research the companies beforehand and make notes for questions, this will help with your timing.
    • Business Cards!!

How do I know which Carriers I will be meeting?

Each shipper representative will receive an interview schedule on the first day of Marketplace during the Opening Reception. We do not provide them before MarketPlace to protect the Shippers.

Do the carriers know which shippers will be attending?

The ECA does not publish any contact information for the shippers attending the show to eliminate any pre-show solicitation prior to the show.

How many interviews will I have?

Be prepared for a full schedule of back-to-back interviews. Each interview lasts 13 minutes. A shipper can schedule up to 48 interviews over the time allotted. It is definitely a “working show.”

Can I finalize contracts during the interview sessions?

We ask that rates not be discussed during the interview process. Any contract finalization should be conducted at another time between a Shipper and the chosen Carrier. However, if there is a good fit between you and a Carrier, have agent/carrier paperwork available.

Is my company able to send more than one representative?

Yes. Actually, we encourage Shippers to bring more than one company representative. It helps relieve a person for a break or share the interview process. It is a “working” show, although social events will be planned for some evenings.

What is the Shipper hospitality suite?

This is an area sectioned off for SHIPPERS ONLY to relax and get away from it all when time allows. As Shippers, you’re the star of the show, and we know you’ll need some downtime. Enjoy the hospitality suite, which will have water, coffee, snacks, treats, and more!

    Can Shippers be a sponsor?

1000% yes! Any company can be a sponsor. Reach out to eca@expresscarriers.org to learn more.

Do Shippers have to be a member?

No, however, if you are a non-member, you won’t get access to the database or matching report after MarketPlace.

How do the travel and deposit reimbursements work?

    • Travel: Based on the time you signed up, you will be eligible for a $550 or $250 hotel and travel amount that will be added to your deposit reimbursement check.
    • Deposit and travel reimbursement: You will receive a reimbursement check after the Shipper debriefing on the last day of MarketPlace.

What is the Shipper debriefing, and why must I stay to receive my reimbursements?

This is a time for the Shippers to communicate to the Board of Directors what went well, areas for improvement, and what they’d like to see moving forward. This helps the Board improve future MarketPlaces. We ask that you stay and provide your feedback before receiving your deposit.

YES! The reason is that Carriers still need to rate you!

How do I know which Carriers I will be meeting?

Should I bring a prize to give away at MarketPlace?

We highly recommend it! While not mandatory, it provides an easy way to capture people’s information and a fun way to create engagement. In the past, Vendors have given away things like Air pods, gift cards, TVs, Yeti’s, Oculus, etc.

What are the booth setup and breakdown rules?

You’ll want to refer to the MarketPlace agenda for Setup and Breakdown times. One thing to note is that if you break down before 3 p.m. on the last day, you will be fined a fee for doing so. Our goal is to create a successful MartkPlace for all, and having booths broken down early can cause major distractions.
